John Travolta is coming to Starfest 2K
Mr. Travolta is starring and producing the upcoming SF epoch, Battlefield Earth and chose Starfest as a worthy event to preview footage from his new movie.

It's our understanding that Tom Cruise and John are good friends. Tom probably told John that he'd have a good opportunity to interact with the SF fans in Denver and should go for it! Since you've got lots of warning, be sure to read the book so you'll have some great questions for his Q&A. The Battlefield Earth website is at http://www.battlefieldearth.com.

Banzai Update
Earl Mac Rauch has submitted a new revision of his "Buckaroo Banzai: Ancient Secrets & New Mysteries" pilot script to Fox Television. The revision was requested by Fox, but there is no word on a time-frame for further action. No doubt, the World Crime League is exerting their sizeable Hollywood influence to delay production on the series as long as possible.

New Year Plans?
How about going to the theater on January 14 to see Supernova starring James Spader, Angela Bassett and Lou Diamond Phillips? It's described as a science fiction thriller that chronicles the high-stakes adventures of a deep space hospital ship and its six-member crew. When their vessel, the Nightingale 229, answers an emergency distress signal from a distant galaxy, the crew soon finds itself in danger from the mysterious young man they rescue, the alien artifact he smuggled aboard and the gravitational pull of a giant star about to go supernova -- the most massive explosion in the universe. We're working on a Starland premier too! Meanwhile, you can visit the Supernova site to play a game and maybe win a poster to the movie.

Jar Jar Comes Home April 4th
Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace is set for home release on Tuesday, April 4. It's still unclear if the movie will be released on DVD at that time.

George Lucas has said in the past, that he would release all six Star Wars movies on DVD when the series was complete. Never a company to pass on a money-making opportunity, I fully expect Lucasfilm to release the DVD edition in April (with a large rebate sponsor) AND then an enhanced version package when all the movies are completed. Why would they want you to buy just one copy?

The Battle Continues
Battlestar: Galactica keeps plugging along! Christmas eve, you can watch the TV Marathon from 9AM to 5AM EST on the SciFi Channel. Click here for details.

On the movie front, the battle for the next movie continues. Glenn Larson has announced pre-production plans for an IMAX movie, but Richard Hatch and Jack Stauffer seem confident that their vision will be the first to screen - a torch-passing film that will feature new and old characters. For the latest on their efforts check out Jack's website.

The Talented Mr. Ripley
To be young and carefree amid the blue waters and idyllic landscape of sun-drenched Italy in the late 1950s; that’s la dolce vita Tom Ripley (Matt Damon) craves -- and Dickie Greenleaf (Jude Law) leads. When Dickie’s father, a wealthy ship builder, asks Tom to bring his errant playboy son back home to America, Dickie and his beautiful expatriate girlfriend, Marge Sherwood (Gwyneth Paltrow), never suspect the dangerous extremes to which Ripley will go to make their lifestyle his own. After all, it’s better to be a fake somebody than a real nobody.

Paramount Pictures and Miramax Films present "The Talented Mr. Ripley" from Academy Award™-winning director Anthony Minghella, starring Matt Damon as Tom Ripley, Gwyneth Paltrow as Marge Sherwood, Jude Law as Dickie Greenleaf and Cate Blanchett as Meredith Logue. The movie is rated R.

Sorbo in Space
Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda has now been contracted to appear on almost 80% of America's TV sets. Kevin Sorbo will star as the captain of the Federation's - er, Commonwealth's newest ship. Look for the hour-long show to air in the fall.

Majel Roddenberry reports that Sorbo's not that bad of a golfer, like a 4 or 5 handicapper. What do you want to bet we'll see a putter in the Captain's Ready Room?
