August 30

Our intrepid reviewer Michael Vance locks his gaze on to two comics in this week's issue.

Confessions of a Cereal Eater is an anthology of high school and college memories features stories illustrated by students. What does Mike think? - He likes the art in Daniel's Den and Movin' In and over-all describes the writing as well-written but filled with unpleasant memories.

His second review (Miniview) is on The Haunted Man. "An uneasy wedding of computer graphics and traditional paper and ink." Mike finds it confusing and uninteresting.

Rawhide Gets Sleepy
Former Starcon guest and Buckaroo Banzai alumni, Clancy Brown has accepted a role in the upcoming ABC television movie Snow White.  The project will be produced by Robert Halmi, who brought you the recent ABC mini-series Arabian Nights, as well as The 10th Kingdom, Cleopatra, Alice in Wonderland and many others. The movie will be produced in Vancouver. Clancy will play a wizard -- the brother to Snow White's "wicked stepmother" (played by Sleepy Hollow's Miranda Richardson) -- whose plotting and magical spells set many of the story's events in motion.  It sounds like the makeup and costuming will be pretty fantastical, and that it's the kind of role Clancy could really sink his teeth into. Snow White will probably have its fair share of special effects, so it may be some time before the movie airs.  When it does, it will no doubt be one of those "event" specials that gets plenty of promotion by the network, which is definitely a GOOD thing. - Thank you for the head's-up Liz!

Hungry for something right now? The Sci-Fi Channel Online has an original audio-play, Titanic Dreams, that features Clancy as one of the main characters. Click here to listen...

Michael Vance says, "Stinz is original. Original means "the first", not imitative, new, inventive, creative. Donna Barr."

Anthony S. Head Coming to Starcon 2000

Ask anyone who meets him - Anthony Head is nothing like Rupert Giles, the character he plays on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Although most people might not recognize him in public wearing jeans and a silk shirt, he should be no stranger to SF fans. Prior to landing his job as the somewhat stuffy rudder on Buffy's hard-to-steer ship, he was a regular on the science fiction series VR.5. (Hey, that would mean he always gets to play with blonds?) He also guest-starred on TV's Highlander

Anthony had a good thing going on British TV before jumping over the pond. He performed in several productions including: Secret Army, Accident, and Bergerac, just to name a few. The accent is real, he was born and raised in England and attended the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts. Sure, he's played in lots of West End theater productions, but his best SF stage role was starring as Dr. Frank ‘N Furter in The Rocky Horror Picture Show. In Rocky Horror circles, his portrayal is often considered the most sexy to grace the stage.

He is currently working on an adult animated feature film which he co-wrote and lives in Los Angeles and England.

Vulcan Discovered!
Last week, at the International Astronomical Union meeting in Manchester England, the discovery of a planet orbiting Epsilon Eridani was officially announced. The planet is a gaseous-giant that would not be a suitable home for our pointy-eared friends, but might be a solar neighbor to the actual Vulcan home planet... or not.

Suspended Animation Reviews
Michael Vance reviews Superman VS The Terminator. Unfortunately, he's less than overwhelmed. He compares Superman to eating pork chops - they are an occasional treat that shouldn't be served too often.

Mark Goddard At Starcon 2000
Mark is best-known for his portrayal of Major Don West on the 60's TV hit Lost in Space. On a ship full of Robinson's and one Smith, Don seemed to be the only guy on the ship that knew what to do with that one Smith - send him out the nearest airlock! But if the family of castaways would have listened to him, there'd have been no foolish foil on the show.
