8 Women8 Women Screening
Wednesday, October 2, 2002

The new film from France’s most daring and inventive writer/director, François Ozon, 8 Women is a comedic murder mystery uniting an all-star lineup of French cinema’s top actresses. A box office smash in France, 8 Women was honored at the 2002 Berlin International Film Festival with a Silver Bear Award for its ensemble cast.

At an isolated mansion in the snowy countryside of 1950s France, a family is gathered for the holiday season…But there will be no celebration – their beloved patriarch has been murdered!

The killer can only be one of the eight women closest to the man of the house. Was it his powerful wife? His spinster sister-in-law? His miserly mother-in-law? Maybe the insolent chambermaid or the loyal housekeeper? Could it possibly have been one of his two pretty young daughters? A surprise visit from the victim’s chic sister sends the household into a tizzy, encouraging hysterics, exacerbating rivalries, and encompassing musical interludes. Comedic situations arise with the revelations of dark family secrets. Seduction dances with betrayal. The mystery of the female psyche is revealed.

Eight women. Each is a suspect. Each has a motive. Each has a secret. Beautiful, tempestuous, intelligent, sensual, and dangerous…One of them is guilty. Which one is it?

This movie is rated R and you must be at least 17 years of age to play for tickets to the screening. This is an instant gratification screening - you'll be given directions for getting your tickets as soon as you complete the quiz correctly. Click here to play.

Red Dragon Screening
Tuesday, October 1, 2002

Edward Norton stars as ex-FBI agent Will Graham, an expert investigator who quit the Bureau after almost losing his life in the process of capturing the elusive Dr. Lecter, played again by Anthony Hopkins.

Years later, after a series of particularly grisly murders, Graham reluctantly agrees to come out of retirement and assist in the case. But he soon realizes that the best way to catch this killer, known as the Tooth Fairy, is to find a way to get inside the killer's mind. And the closest thing to that would be to probe the mind of another killer who is equally brilliant and equally twisted. For Graham, that means confronting his past and facing his former nemesis, the now-incarcerated Lecter. Ralph Fiennes plays Francis Dolarhyde. The movie is rated R and you must be 17 or older to play for tickets. Click here to play for tickets.

The GoonSuspended Animation Comic Reviews
Double Whammy Day - The Goon and The Powerpuff Girls Movie

Life is messy. It needs a haymaker in the mush sometimes (or what passes for a mush on a ghost) to set thing straight. So believes The Goon, who is a bit mushy himself. He looks like an Italian dockworker smashed in the face by a waffle iron.

Oh, and Michael also has something to say about the comic adaptation of The Powerpuff Girls Movie, but not too much.

CagesCages
This week's Suspended Animation Review
Insightful. Original. Engrossing. Beautiful. Groundbreaking. These are words that accurately describe Cages, a massive graphic novel from NBM Publishing and creator Dave McKean. There are more words. Theologically silly. Slow. Uneven. Unresolved. Disappointing.

Not so SparkyFarewell To Farscape
Always imaginative, incredibly original.
Susan Anderson provided us with the heads-up on this unfortunate development. It seems that Sci-Fi channel has decided that Farscape is beginning to cost too much and the ratings aren't good enough, to justify its renewal. We can expect to see the last of the fourth season episodes in January, but Sci-Fi won't be picking-up a fifth season of the show. The show, coincidentally, will begin to run on the Canadian Space channel this month. Click here to read the full report.
