Starfest 2004 Reports
We plan to start posting comments and photos from Starfest tomorrow. Please email your contributions to starland@starland.com. We are looking for a good cross-section of reports so we can construct as complete a story as possible on the hundreds of events that took place over the weekend. We've received a lot of great comments and suggestions already, please send us more!

All the guests at the convention reported how well-behaved and friendly everyone was at the show. We knew about some problems behind the scenes, but fortunately they were minor and were able to be solved quickly. We think we're going to have some really great shows at the Marriott over the next few years. We're already making plans and adjustments to try and make Starfest 2005 even better than this year's show. You can help by letting us know what worked and didn't so we can keep the show evolving and improving each year.

Convention Schedule Is Finally Done
Making the convention schedule this year was extra-difficult because of all the new activities and programming this year. There just isn't enough space on a two-sided 11x17 sheet of paper for everything we have happening this year. Cubby (the Wonder Dog) quit trying to stay awake with me as the sun came up over the plains this morning. I finally finished the schedule and burned the CD files around 6:30am. I commented to Susan (the Starfest Events Coordinator) that next year we'll be going to an 8 page schedule -- that way I won't have to be so creative trying to fit everything on the pages. I'm sure, as I write this note that there will be changes to the printed schedule once you get to the convention, I apologize in advance for any sleep deprived errors I might have made that will have to be explained at the show - Stephen Walker

You can download a printable version of the schedule by clicking here. If you need it, here's the link for the free Acrobat Reader.

Lexa Doig Is Unable To Attend Starfest 2004
We just received word from Lexa Doig that she will NOT be able to come to the convention due to professional commitments. She regrets not being able to make it to the show and sends her best wishes and apologies to her fans. We'll try to reschedule her for a future convention.

Her husband, Michael Shanks, IS coming. Please be sure to give him lots of love and support, since he'll be a lonesome guy without his wife this weekend while he's in Denver.

Marsha, Kevin and Darin will be hosting a special feature presentation on their new film on Saturday in the Main Events Room at Starfest.

Horror01Starfest Takes Horror To A Whole New Level
Expanded Horror genre programming at Starfest 2004
The horror room staff is excited about their new expanded program schedule at this year's Starfest. There are now two rooms dedicated to running Horror video and panels doubling the programming from last year. In the Horror Video room they'll be showing convention favorites like The Rocky Horror Picture Show and Little Shop of Horrors plus all new video programming including tributes to Stephen King and Edgar Allan Poe. In the panel room they will cover a wide range of horror topics including horror soundtracks, horror anime, and a special presentation by the Rocky Mountain Paranormal Research Society. These guys are the "real" ghost busters and they'll be discussing their experiences with paranormal investigations in Colorado. They'll also be bringing along some of the really cool equipment they use. Who knows, maybe they'll find the ghost of last year's pizza? Also Saturday night the panel room will present RPG's like Vampire the Masquerade and other fun games.

We're really happy to have our first horror room guest this year, Matthew Helms from Cabin Fever. At this time we plan to show Cabin Fever and have a Q&A with Matt afterwards. He's also scheduled to do a martial arts demonstration for us in the panel room!

On Friday night you'll want to check out the Horror Carnival. This year we're doing it bigger and better in the Atrium of the hotel. We've got new games and lots of cool prizes. All of the proceeds from the carnival go to the Diana Price - Fish Cancer Foundation.

Saturday night join us for the "Pajama Party Massacre" in the video room. We'll be partying, showing movies, and giving away prizes for our favorite pajamas.

We hope that the horror room will continue to grow at Starfest becoming a convention within the convention. More guests from the horror genre, more one of a kind events and activities are all in our plans for the future. As always we are open to suggestions. Stop by and tell us what you'd like to see us do in the future.

This year's staff has expanded but after 6 years we still have some of the same staff members we started with. They are all dedicated to making the horror room fun and interesting every year. Since most of us do charity work throughout the year, you will almost always find a charity event on the schedule for the horror room. Every year the horror room staff has a theme song and motto for the room. This year's theme song is "Bodies" by Drowning Pool, which you will hear played in the rooms throughout the weekend. Our motto for Starfest 2004 is "Let the bodies hit the floor!"  Look for the horror room staff to be wearing their own version of a staff shirt this year on Saturday. Believe me you'll know it when you see it!

Kathy Josey, also known as Ice Witch to her friends, heads the staff for the horror room. She has been a horror fan since she was just a kid and enjoys all kinds of horror films from the classics to all the new stuff. When not planning for Starfest or another convention, she runs a Metaphysical store, Sisters' Sojourn, with her sister in Wheat Ridge.

Comfort Convenience & Class
Book your convention rooms now at the Marriott Denver Tech Center
Since Starfest is an all-weekend event, we recommend that you stay at the convention hotel. We have activities planned pretty-much around the clock so having a room at the facility will allow you to rest your heels between key events and still get to see everything you want at the show.

We've negotiated a special convention discount to save you a lot of money off the hotel's regular room rates. We learned a bit about the hotel at last year's convention. If you ask, you can select a room overlooking the Atrium section of the hotel with a balcony over the convention. We saw some people hanging party banners inviting walkers-by up for some fun. It made for a great atmosphere in the Atrium.

The spacious Tower Section is located at the North end of the hotel and features great vistas of downtown Denver and the mountains. Kevin Atkins, our Master of Ceremonies, took some great photos from his room at Starfest 2003. Click here to take a look at what you could be seeing out your window at this beautiful hotel!

The Marriott DTC is accepting room reservations for Starfest 2004. For just $76 per night (plus tax) you can rent a single or double room. Call the hotel directly to make your reservations at 303.779.1100 - operators are standing by. Make sure you mention you're coming for Starfest so they don't charge you too much for the room.
