Starfleet Academy at Starfest
Popular program returns to educate, inform and fascinate
Starfleet Academy will once again be offering classes at Starfest this year. Starfleet Academy is an entertaining opportunity to experience life as a Starfleet cadet. Multimedia presentations, audience participation, a little education and a lot of fun are what the classes are all about. The classes are taught by instructors from the actual Starfleet Academy and have included Vulcans, Andorians, Betazed, a Deltan, and even the occasional human. There are always plenty of surprises, and everyone is invited to attend one, two or all four classes. Diplomas and other rewards will be given to those who complete all four courses. Check the Activities Schedule for more details and other great stuff in store at Starfest 2005.
Doctor Doom's Dastardly Plans Changed
Fantastic Four Premiere footage still coming
Late last night we received word that Julian McMahan regretfully would not be able to attend Starfest. Studio representatives informed us that we will have the World Premiere of the 3rd and final trailer for the new Fantastic Four movie at Starfest. The footage will be featured with the new Star Wars release in a couple of weeks. Also, to be shown from 20th Century Fox is the exclusive-to-Starfest ShowWest footage from Kingdom of Heaven and Mr./Mrs. Smith. All this exclusive footage and more will be part of Dave and Jeff's Coming Attractions presentation on Saturday and Sunday.

Grace Park Added to Starfest Guestlist
We don't believe for a second that she had anything to do with Katee not making it.
Due to scheduling conflicts, Katee Sackhoff will not be able to attend Starfest this year. Gratefully, we were able to secure Grace Park, also from Battlestar Galactica, to fill-in for her. We are very excited about getting to have Grace come a year or two earlier than planned. Her genre credits might make her even more familiar with science fiction in many respects than Katee is. Make sure you ask her about that when she appears onstage on Saturday!

Starring as the primary cylon infiltrator on Battlestar Galactica, Grace Park has the most complicated role on the show. She is a cylon who doesn't know she's a cylon. Her character, Lt. Sharon Valarii AKA "Boomer" has an inkling that something is wrong. She's been programmed to be as human as possible - so her character is constantly fighting her Cylon subconscious self. If that isn't complicated enough... Grace is not just one cylon, she represents a whole model of cylons - talk about your split personalities! Her missions on the show often put her in the conflicted position of betraying her cylon sisters. The great challenge for Grace, which she performs so well on the show, is to make us empathize with the unique moral dilemmas Boomer faces as she comes to terms with her battered sense of self. It's a portrayal that has managed to tease us with the possibility that the cylons might have made her just a little too human - while holding out the possibility that that was their plan all along. Check our complete guest list for Starfest and Activities Schedule for more great stuff in store at Starfest 2005.

A road trip to the biggest college football championship of the year takes a turn for the worse for Carly, Paige and their friends when they decide to camp out for the night before heading to the game. Starfest emcee Kevin Atkins & Old-School SFX
He's not just about jokes during the Costume Contest - this guy knows his stuff!
With so many remakes of classic SF and Fantasy films being released this year, we thought the time was right for a look back at the originals. Join our MC, Kevin Atkins, for a behind-the-scenes look at the 1933 King Kong, and the original War Of The Worlds released in 1958. Each film will be introduced by Kevin, setting the stage for the time the films were originally presented. Afterward, Kevin will present an overview of the groundbreaking special effects that made these films possible.

Both of the presentations should be entertaining and informative. Please consult the Convention Schedule for exact times and additional details.

The Year of the Yao Screening Quiz/Contest
Screening Tuesday, April 26th at 7:00pm at the Colorado Center Theater
Yao Ming is just 22 years old. To the Chinese nation of one billion, he is a heroic son and symbol of its increasing presence on the world stage. To the National Basketball Association, he is a poster child for the globalization of the sport and potentially its first iconic superstar from outside North America and Europe. To his teammates on the Houston Rockets, he is the key to a successful championship season. To basketball fans, comedians and even commentators in his field, he is an anomaly: the tallest player in the NBA and Chinese. To his supportive parents, both of whom preceded him as members of the Chinese National Basketball team, he is simply "son." To a young American interpreter with a passion for Chinese language and culture, he is initially a client for interpretation services... and eventually, over the course of a year, a close and valued friend. The Year of the Yao is James D. Stern and Adam Del Deo's exciting, inspiring chronicle of Yao Ming's tumultuous first year in the NBA.

No comic escapes the discerning gaze of Michael Vance and Mark Allen
Anyone who has been a comics fan for a while and doesn’t know who Neal Adams is...., well, they’ve probably received severe head trauma. Coming onto the scene in the 1960's, his ultra-realistic style brought new life to stale properties in D.C. Comics’ Batman, and Marvel Comics’ X-Men. An important figure in the history of the medium, Neal recently took time to speak to Suspended Animation about his contribution to comics, his defense of creators’ rights, and what he perceives as some problems in the business, today. Read Mark Allen's in-depth interview with this comic's industry legend.

Starfest Updates
Same Place, More Stuff Going On
We just finished updating the map for Starfest. Most of the rooms have not moved, but there are some changes. Feel free to click on the image here to get a larger copy to look at before the show - so you'll know where you're going.

The program book for the convention has been sent to the printers - and there are already some changes coming... we'll be letting you know about new guests and events here on the website ASAP. Don't get worried, William Shatner is definitely coming! Reggie McDaniel (KOA's Entertainment Radio Show) will be broadcasting from the convention center again this year. Rock'n Reggie is quite a character - it's a real hoot watching him interview our guests live on the radio at the information booth.

We will be showing some World-Exclusive movie footage at the show, please don't bring your video cameras to the show. Undercover security, hired by the major movie studios, will be equipped with infrared vision to prevent people from taping. The technology sounds Bond-like, but that's how they do it. Let's show them how well behaved Starfest people are. Please alert the red-shirts if you see someone trying to smuggle a video camera into the convention. We don't want to do anything that would prevent us from getting these special exclusives at future Starfest conventions.
