Brick
Screening Quiz &
Contest
Wed. April 5th at 7pm
The Chez Artiste, 2800 S
Colorado Blvd.
Brick, the
dynamic debut feature
from writer/director
Rian Johnson, won the
Sundance Film Festival's
Special Jury Prize for
Originality of Vision.
Brick, while taking its cues and its verbal style from the novels
of Dashiell Hammett, also honors the rich cinematic tradition of the
hard-boiled noir mystery, here wittily and bracingly immersed in
fresh territory – a modern-day Southern California neighborhood and
high school. There, student Brendan Frye's (Joseph Gordon-Levitt)
piercing intelligence spares no one. Brendan is not afraid to back
up his words with actions, and knows all the angles; yet he prefers
to stay an outsider, and does – until the day that his
ex-girlfriend, Emily (Emilie de Ravin of Lost), reaches out to him
unexpectedly and then vanishes. Brendan's feelings for her still run
deep; so much so, that he becomes consumed with finding his troubled
inamorata.
To find her, Brendan enlists the aid of his only true peer, The
Brain (Matt O'Leary), while keeping the assistant vice principal
(Richard Roundtree) only occasionally informed of what quickly
becomes a dangerous investigation. Brendan's single-minded
unearthing of students' secrets thrusts him headlong into the
colliding social orbits of rich-girl sophisticate Laura (Nora
Zehetner), intimidating Tugger (Noah Fleiss), substance-abusing Dode
(Noah Segan), seductive Kara (Meagan Good), jock Brad (Brian White),
and – most ominously – non-student The Pin (Lukas Haas). It is only
by gaining acceptance into The Pin's closely guarded inner circle of
crime and punishment that Brendan will be able to uncover hard
truths about himself, Emily, and the suspects that he is getting
closer to.

Take The Lead
Screening Quiz &
Contest
Tuesday, April 4th @ 7:30pm
@
The Meadows Stadium 12 (Yosemite
& C-470)
Antonio Banderas stars in Take the Lead, a drama inspired by the
true story of Pierre Dulaine, an inspirational Manhattan dance
teacher and competitor who volunteers his time to teach ballroom
dancing to a diverse group of New York inner-city high school
students serving detention.
The students are initially skeptical of Dulaine, especially when
they learn what he's there to teach them, but his unwavering
commitment and dedication slowly inspire them to embrace his
program. In fact, they even take it one step further and combine
Dulaine's classical dance with their unique hip-hop style and music
to create a high-energy, unique fusion. As Dulaine becomes a mentor
for his students, many of whom haven't had much to strive towards in
their lives, he inspires them to hone their craft for a prestigious
city ballroom competition, and in return they share with each other
valuable lessons about pride, respect and honor.

Moon
Bloodgood
Moon's star began rising as a professional
dancer. Her talent led to her becoming a Laker Girl and then to
performing with Prince, Brandi and Offspring. Later she
began modeling for Revlon, Clairol and Avon. She gained a lot of
exposure with ad campaigns for Adidas and Nike.
Then she turned to singing, writing songs
with Paul Anka and, just when she was about to really get going as a
singer-songwriter, she caught the acting bug.
Her TV credits include Just Shoot Me,
CSI (where she interestingly played a model), North Shore,
and Monk.
In 2004 she successfully moved into film
work, first with Win A Date With Tad Hamilton! then last year in
A Lot Like Love. This year she is appearing in four films:
Moonlight Serenade, Eight Below, Pathfinder and Day Break
(which is currently filming).
Moon is appearing at Starfest as a part
of the Twentieth Century Fox presentation for Pathfinder on
Saturday, April 22nd on the

 Starfleet
Academy at Starfest
Celebrating 5 years of
Starfleet extension courses at Starfest
Join
Ambassador Indra Ivari, Deputy Commander Stevl and a host of
professors in celebrating Starfleet Academy’s 5th year at
Starfest! Starfleet Academy is an entertaining opportunity to
experience life as a Starfleet cadet. Multimedia presentations,
audience participation, a little education and a lot of fun are what
the classes are all about. The classes are taught by instructors
from the actual Starfleet Academy and have included Vulcans,
Andorians, Betazed, a Deltan, and even the occasional human. There
are always plenty of surprises, and everyone is invited to attend
one, two or all four classes. Diplomas and other rewards will be
given to those who complete all four courses.
Starfleet
Academy: History 101 – Baby Steps in Weightlessness –The Beginning
of Earth Space Travel -
Instructor:
Guest Professor from the 20th Century History Department
Interstellar
travel has become so commonplace that it’s hard to imagine than when
it began, the first space travelers were dogs and chimps, manned
flights lasted 15 minutes, and rockets involved everything from
impressive failures to ham sandwiches. The professor will present an
enlightening and humorous look at how humans first began their
sojourn into space, complete with rare footage and seldom-heard
anecdotes about the early human space program.
Starfleet
Academy: LS 101 – Life Skills: The Rec Deck, or How to Enjoy Your
Mandatory Free Time
Instructor:
The Rec Deck Team
"The more
advanced the life form, the greater the need for play." Relaxation
is the key to high morale, which is the key to a smoothly operating
ship's crew. Humans, Andorians, Tellerites and Vulcans all use
"downtime" differently, but all can use it on the Rec Deck. Students
will have the chance to experience a variety of enjoyable and
challenging activities.
Starfleet
Academy: Leadership Symposium 302 – WWKD: What Would Kirk Do – And
Should You?
Instructor:
Guest Presenter – Victoria Windsor
No one man in
the history of Starfleet is more controversial than James Tiberius
Kirk. Was he the greatest Starfleet captain of all time, or merely
“a menace”? Much of the controversy stems from the decisions and
choices that he made and their consequences. In this symposium,
students will examine the kinds of choices they will make as
Starfleet officers, first by examining potential alternate futures
and then, by comparing their own decision making skills with those
of the esteemed Captain Kirk.
Starfleet
Academy: Engineering 103: Federation Architecture and Design –
Future Design and Construction Techniques -
Instructor:
Dr. T’Nea Kelly
Starfleet
Engineers don’t just save ships at the last minute. There is a
tremendous demand for designers and builders who can help create
everything from colonies to commodes. In this hands-on class,
students will have the chance to demonstrate and hone their design
and construction techniques in competition with their fellow
students.

Thursday, March 23rd @ 7pm
@
The Cherry Creek Theater (3000
E 1st Ave)
Sporting a cut-off flannel shirt and armed with a truckload of
one-liners, Larry the Cable Guy is America's reigning king of
blue-collar comedy. Now, after two #1 comedy tours (out-selling both
Jerry Seinfeld and Chris Rock), two hit concert films, a
best-selling book, two chart-topping comedy albums and a
multi-platinum DVD special, Larry makes his feature film debut in
the Larry The Cable Guy: Health Inspector.
Irreverent as ever, Larry plays a big city health inspector who's
happy with his usual beat of greasy spoon diners and low-rent ethnic
restaurants. But his easygoing life is turned upside-down when he's
saddled with a straight-arrow rookie partner and assigned the
biggest case of his career: investigating an outbreak of mysterious
food poisonings at the city's swankiest restaurants. Infuriating

Dr.
Kevin Fitzgerald of Animal Planet's Emergency Vets
Being rejected your first time is normal for
veterinary school applicants, explains Dr. Fitzgerald. What most
determined students do - after their first rejection - is what Kevin
did. But he kind of did it the long way.
While getting his master's, then Ph.D. and then teaching at the
University of Hawaii, he worked summers as a bouncer and toured with
The Rolling Stones, George Clinton, Willie Nelson, The Who, Bob
Marley and Elvis.
Later - way later - he graduated veterinary school
at Colorado State University. He then started working at the Alameda
East vet hospital. Over the years, because of the kind of guy he is,
he become a specialist in exotic-animals. That, and his comedic
on-screen antics are what landed him on Animal Planet's Emergency
Vets show.
Dr. Fitzgerald will be a guest at Starfest 2006,
well kind of a guest. He's actually going to be interviewed at
Starfest on the Reggie McDaniel Radio Show - which will be broadcast
on KOA 850, direct from the Starfest Atrium on Saturday, April 22nd.
If you happen to bring your sick, exotic pet, I'm
sure he'll be willing to dispense some sage advise for you. Just be
prepared to get a bit of his comedy with your diagnosis.
For more information about crazy Kevin, you can

Animal Planet website. where most of this information was
gleaned.

Julia
Stiles
Ms. Julia Stiles will be appearing at Starfest as part
of the 20th Century Fox presentation for The Omen.
Already well known for an impressive number of
roles as a young woman, Julia is well on her way to stardom as an
adult actress. She's one of those rare child stars that has been
able to grow successfully into adult starring roles.
Born in New York City in 1981, she made her
off-Broadway debut at the age of 11. Shortly after, she was in the
running and almost got the role of Claudia in Interview with the
Vampire. Luckily for us, she didn't quit looking for work after
that disappointment, but kept trying and landed her first cinematic
feature I Love You, I Love You Not with Claire Danes. Julia
next appeared with Harrison Ford in The Devil's Own and in
1998 she played Ellie Christianson in Wicked. Her next three
roles were taken from Shakespeare: A modern update to Taming of
The Shrew titled 10 Things I Hate About You, Ophelia in
Hamlet with Ethan Hawke, and another modern update - that of
Othello titled O. She then enrolled at Columbia
University and graduated with a degree in English, she moved-on to
star with Matt Damon in The Bourne Identity and its sequel,
The Bourne Supremacy. In between those two features, she
played opposite Julia Roberts in Mona Lisa Smile. Last year
she starred in A Little Trip to Heaven and Edmond. It
doesn't look like she'll be using her English degree to teach school
anytime soon.

Karl
Urban Appearing At
Starfest In Pathfinder
Presentation
We are
proud and excited to
announce an incredible
addition to the Starfest
lineup! Karl Urban is
fast becoming one of
Hollywood's biggest
leading actors and he'll
be coming to Denver. In
the new 20th Century Fox
film Pathfinder,
Karl stars as Ghost. The
film is the story of a
brave young man who
avenges his family's
murder and saves a
village from a group of
barbaric warriors.
Karl is no stranger to action films.
His breakthrough role was as Eomer in the Lord of
the Rings series. It is reported that he mastered one-handed
horseback riding for that part and tackles all of his acting
assignments with the same vigor.
The New Zealander's genre credits are impressive
and memorable: In Doom he starred as John Grimm. In The
Bourne Supremacy he played Kirill the Russian playboy assassin,
In The Chronicles of Riddick, he played a cat and mouse game
with Vin Diesel's character as they both attempted to take the
throne occupied by Lord Marshal. In the last two of The Lord of
the Rings movies, he was Eomer, the nephew of King Theoden and
one of Rohan's mightiest warriors and fine horsemen. He appeared
repeatedly in Xena: The Warrior Princess and Hercules: The
Legendary Journeys as Julius Ceasar, Kor, and Cupid. Like that
last mentioned character, he will no-doubt shoot an arrow through
the heart of many a young admirer at Starfest.

remarkable thing about
this movie (and the
hardest image to get out
of my mind) is that is
was dreamed-up by those
two lily-white guys
lying on the beach
together!
We'll
just try to forget about
the second movie...
This film is being
presented as the second
film in the Flashback series at
the Continental. This is
definitely the kind of
movie that you should
see on the
Continental's
three-story screen
before you die. I know
I'll be there.
Tickets
for the screening are on
sale right now for just
$5.00 each. You can get
them at the theater box
office or online at
www.regmovies.com.
We have three pair of
tickets to give away (on
Monday, March 6th),
but we'd recommend you
get your tickets now and
make sure you don't miss
out on this incredible
event.
Anyone
that comes in an
Indy-inspired costume is
eligible for special
props. Last week,
everyone that came in
costume to The Wrath of
Khan got a prize.
Play for tickets to the
screening.

Tristram
Shandy: A Cock & Bull
Story
Screening Quiz &
Contest
Thursday, March 9th @ 7:30pm
@
The Chez Artiste Theater (2800
S Colorado Blvd)
Michael
Winterbottom's
Tristram Shandy: A Cock
& Bull Story is a
rollicking, inventive
adaptation of the
classic 18th Century
comic novel The Life
and Opinions of Tristram
Shandy, Gentleman by
Laurence Sterne. A
well-known though not
necessarily widely read
masterpiece, The Life
and Opinions of Tristram
Shandy, Gentleman is
a bawdy romp that plays
with the conventions of
the novel. Winterbottom
multiplies Sterne's
conceit to tell two
stories: that of an 18th
Century Englishman,
Tristram Shandy and that
of the hapless 21st
Century filmmakers who
are adapting the
notoriously unfilmable
work. Slyly
acknowledging public
fascination with the
movie industry, Tristram
Shandy strolls onto a
modern film set,
complete with insecure
actors, scandal-hunting
reporters, and balky
investors. As it follows
the fortunes of two
families - one blood,
one professional - the
film makes us privy to
the calamities, crises
and flirtations that
transcend centuries.
Tristram Shandy: A
Cock & Bull Story
premiered at the
Toronto, New York and
AFI Film Festivals to
critical raves. Now it's
your turn to see why.
This movie is rated R.
You must be at least 17
years of age to
play for
