Thank you Starland for wasting an hour of my time as I stood in line for the prescreening of Star Trek. I've never been denied a pass before at a prescreensing. I've always taken the tests and gotten a message saying congratulations, you answered the questions correctly. But I've never gotten a confirmation email after that. I've always used the original email informing me of the prescreening and have gotten in every time. Well, not today. Was told that the movie will be overbooked. Newsflash - I'm always hearing of people being turned away when there are a ton of seats roped off in the theather. What a waste. Guess I'll start looking for the locations on where to get free passes since I've never gotten the precious confirmation email.

I'm not part of Starland, so take this for what it's worth.

Quite often, a lot of the seats that are roped off are for film reviewers. Those seats tend to be opened up about 15-20 minutes before the screening if ther review hasn't shown up. I've been to some of these screenings and I know that Starland gets SOME seats, but I'm prefectly fine with that as they're getting us an opportunity to see a movie early and for free.

I also thought it was a pretty well known fact that preview screenings get overbooked. It doesn't matter if you have the e-mail from Starland or a pass given out at a bookstore/music store. Once the screening is full, it's full. The studio wants to make sure that it's a packed house. If you only give out enough passes to fill the screening, you're always going to have at least 10% of the people who don't show for whatever reason. WIth a movie like Star Trek, I would guess that people had been there for a good bit of the afternoon.

It's a bummer that you didn't get in, but I'm not suprised. I've got my ticket already purchased for tonight, and I'm planning on getting there at least 2 hours early so I get a decent seat. This is a movie that will not only bring out the hardcore geeks, but also the mainstream audience.

Hello. No, I got there with plenty of seats available. Many people behind me got in. No, my issue is that every prescreening I've been to they've let me use the email I've presented. What I need to take from this is that I'll just go to the non-summer blockbusters.

Sorry, I misunderstood when you said that you were denied because they said there were overbooked. Hopefully, Steve and Kathe can talk to the press organization (I'm not going to name them) about this to try and make sure something like this doesn't happen again in the future.

wescoatbl,

I'm sorry that you weren't able to see the movie on Wednesday and my part in the confusion about the Starland.com quiz/screenings. Once in a while (when there were extra seats at a screening) I have been able to be lenient and allow people into screenings that didn't have winning tickets. I guess that has happened to you in the past. Unfortunately, that was not the case for the Star Trek screening, because all the seats were going to be filled.

Because of the problem you experienced, I will attempt to make the instructions clearer. The last thing I want to do is make the screenings a bad experience for anyone. If you would please send me your address, via private message, I will happily send you tickets for two so you can see Angels and Demons on May 13th.

Thank you Stephen! I understand how the contest works now - 2 parts. 1st the questions and then 2nd is the name drawing. I tried sending you a personal message but I keep getting an error message. So, I left you a voice mail and I faxed the message I typed up. Hope you get my message in time for me to have the passes for tomororw night. Will my ID work if I'm not able to print out the email? I don't have a printer at home - yeah, I know, lame - but that's what work if for :D Thanks!
