Leonard Nimoy
Here is a small primer for anyone who doesn't already know all about Leonard Nimoy (there might be a couple of you out there). He created the role of Spock on the Star Trek TV series way back in 1966. Playing Spock, he is the only actor to have appeared in every episode of the original series, including the pilot The Cage, as well as every animated episode and every motion picture starring the original cast. Through it all, he has voyaged through the stars and into the hearts of every young person that yearned to travel to space. The great appeal of the show reached it's climax in the mid 70's when it was run on TV in syndication. Countless Jr and High School kids turned it on every day after school (in Denver it was on Monday - Friday at 4pm). Spock was smart - an intellegent alien that we'd all like on our side in any debate. On the show, he counciled Captain Kirk and provided the logical counterbalance to emotional appeals presented by Dr. "Bones" McCoy. The interplay between "the big three" made us realize there were always different ways to look at things in life - Kirk's way, McCoy's way and Spock's way. After the TV series ended in 1969, Nimoy went on to star in the hit show Mission Impossible for three seasons as "The Great Paris." His genre appearances as an actor include: Zombies of the Stratosphere, Them!, The Man Called X, The Silent Service, The Brain Eaters, Sea Hunt, The Twilight Zone, The Outer Limits, The Man from UNCLE, Get Smart, Night Gallery, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Star Trek Movies 1-6, The Transformers Movie, Armageddon: Target Earth, The Lost World, Sinbad: Beyond the Veil of Mists, and Atlantis: The Lost Empire. In 1970 he began stepping behind the camera and directed the following genre TV shows: Night Gallery, The Powers of Matthew Star, and T. J. Hooker. In 1984 he created the term "Spock Dead" when he got his chance to directing feature films and literally resurrect his character in Star Trek III: The Search for Spock. That success lead to: Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, the commercial hit Three Men and a Baby, and the critically acclaimed The Good Mother. Mr. Nimoy will be attending Starfest 2007 on Saturday, April 21st. He will appear for a Q&A session in our Main Events room, sign autographs and be available for photos. |
