April 14-16, 2000
Thank you for the fun!

An incredible weekend of
science fiction overload!

John Travolta

I was losing badly at the US Table Tennis Nationals in Las Vegas when I got the news. I had called KathE to relate the sad tale of my latest loss to some kid half my age, and less than half my weight. That's when she told me something I could be happy about.

John Travolta is coming to Starfest, she said.

     The John Travolta? I asked.

     Yep, she answered.

At the "fixed" podium

Thus the count-down clock started. We've had big-name stars say they'd come before. Some follow through, some don't. But not once did Mr. T waffle. Not once did we get a call that he might not make it. Sure, we were worried as the delivery date for his very pregnant wife approached and we were very relieved when she gave birth prior to the show.

Happily on Friday, April 14, 2000, I got the call.

     Mr. Travolta has arrived.

He wasn't the only one smiling...

The Warner Brothers corporate jet had touched down. Our wait was over. I could quit worrying, I had nightmares about getting a call - saying he'd chipped a tooth or something and had to cancel. I knew people were flying to Denver from all over the country for a chance to see the man in person.

And saw him they did! What a nice quiet man. Back stage before his presentation we went over the program. He'd go on stage after the trailer, perhaps tell an interesting antic dote from the movie and open the floor for questions.

Other than a little scare, when he decided to alarm the security people by jumping off stage, all went well. I think it's safe to say we'll all be seeing the movie on opening day.

Thank you John. You made a few thousand people's day in Denver.
